In an illustrious career spanning over 4 decades, Tam has established himself as a troubadour in the truest sense of the word. Since his early fame with the Boston Dexters in 1960, he has packed out concert halls and clubs, either as a solo artist or accompanied by his bands Groove Connection or The Shoestring Band.

Tam’s recent appearance fronting the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra brought the house down.

Snowdrop Festival

Caprington Castle

Caprington stands in a landscape bordered by the River Irvine, close to Kilmarnock.  The mixed woodland policies are well carpeted with snowdrops and there is a walled garden with fruit trees, vegetables and flowers in season. New Stump garden.

Directions:

From M77 take the A71 to Irvine and go off at first roundabout to Troon, Dundonald and Gatehead.  In Gatehead go over railway line and river bridge and take first left at Old Rome Farmhouse.  The twin lodges are about ½ mile on.

Blairquhan Castle

Regency Castle built by William Burn, 1821 – 1824 for Sir David Hunter Blair 3rd Bart. Sixty-foot high saloon with gallery. The kitchen courtyard is formed with stones and sculpture from an earlier castle. 3 mile private drive along the River Girvan. Walled garden, pinetum and Regency glasshouse. The castle is surrounded by an extensive park including an arboretum. There is a tree trail and a shop.

From Ayr A77 south. Take B7045 to Kirkmichael. At village centre take Straiton road. After ½ mile signpost Entry over bridge on right

Victor Chandler Raceday

The Victor Chandler Raceday on Friday February 12 2010 features six quality races and after racing entertainment. The action is due off at 1.50 pm with the highlight of the racing a Class 2 Handicap Hurdle over two miles four furlongs at 3.35 pm with £20,000 in the prize fund.

The final race of the afternoon is at 4.45 pm and after the racing there will be a disco for about three hours in the Horseshoe Bar.

The Cast consists of Dave Francis on guitar and Mairi Campbell on viola, fiddle and vocals.  Mairi, whose voice is stunning, was the Singer of the Year at the 2007 Scottish Traditional Music Awards.  She came to national prominence in 2008 when her rendition of Auld Lang Syne was featured in the Hollywood film ‘Sex in the City’.  Husband Dave is involved in many music projects, including being director of two music festivals.  The duo perform traditional music and song as well as their own compositions in traditional style.

Jez Lowe

Cultural Connections is presenting Jez Lowe, one of England’s finest singer songwriters, along with many of his songs recorded by other well-known folk artists.  He hails from Northeast England and many of his songs reflect that area.  In 2008 Jez was Folk Singer of the Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.  He accompanies himself on guitar, harmonica and cittern performing worldwide, either solo, or with his band the Bad Pennies.
